The Westlake Rams have an opportunity to move into a tie for fourth place in District 4-3A when they travel to take on the Eunice Bobcats.
The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off following the junior varsity game.
“We are going to have to shoot the ball well,” said Rams’ head coach Doug Morris. “We are going to have to play good defense and I think we have a shot at them.”
The last time Westlake (9-19, 2-6) played Eunice, the Bobcats (9-14, 3-5) were able to come away with a 54-36 road win. The Rams would like to return the favor and hand Eunice a home district loss.
“We played them pretty good here but just ended up on the short end of the stick,” said Morris. “If we go out and play well, we can play with them.”
In the January 26th contest agaist Eunice, Morris said that the Rams struggled shooting down the stretch and the Bobcats were able to take advantage.
Today, the Rams will need the continued efforts of senior guard Christian Weber. Weber has led the Rams in scoring in their last two games and averages 13ppg on the season.
“He’s been stepping it up,” Morris said on Weber. “We have a couple other players that are no longer on the team and he’s basically taken over and has become a scoring threat.
“He’s always has had the game, but I don’t think he’s had the confidence. Once he started playing well and scoring, he’s more aggressive with the basketball. He’s been playing great and needs to keep it up.”
The Rams season finale against the Northwest Raiders has been moved to Monday due to the Mardi Gras holiday. Monday’s game is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
