LAKE CHARLES–The turnover woes continued for the Westlake Lady Rams in their 58-37 loss to the Jennings Lady Bulldogs on Wednesday night at the Cameron State Bank/Lake Charles Toyota Southwest Shootout at Barbe.
Westlake started off the game keeping pace with the Lady Bulldogs trailing just 11 points at half, 30-19.
“I thought the first half we did a good job of holding onto the ball,” said Westlake head coach Gloria Fontenot. “I thought they did really well in our offense working the ball and trying to take the good shots.”
What the Lady Rams were able to do in the first half didn’t carry over into the second half. Westlake started off the third quarter with three straight turnovers leading to six Jennings points.
“It just came down to turnovers in the second half,” Fontenot said.
Westlake was able to break the tough man-to-man Jennings press and had the opportunity for transition baskets. But the Lady Rams opted pass under the basket instead of going for the lay-up. This led to turnovers that allowed to the Lady Bulldogs to pull away.
“Overall the whole game came down to shots,” said Fontenot. “We missed way too many open buckets. We knew that they were going to score, we had to score with them.”
Maya Tunwar and Kylie Goodeaux led the Lady Rams with 10 points apiece while Brittany Johnson added eight points.
Westlake will take on Barbe today at 7 p.m.
