The Westlake Lady Rams clinched their second consecutive District 4-3A title on Monday with a 9-1 win over the Iowa Lady Yellow Jackets on the road.
The Lady Rams wrapped up the 2010 district season undefeated for the championship.
Westlake (17-9-2, 10-0) dominated Iowa at the plate and in the circle. Junior pitcher Maggie Bradshaw pitched a perfect six and a third innings for the Lady Rams before allowing a runner on in the seventh on a Westlake error.
“I was just ready,” said Bradshaw on her near-perfect outing. “I was ready and really pumped up and my team really pumped me up. I came in and threw hard for them.”
The lone Lady Yellow Jacket (13-9, 7-2) run came in the seventh inning when Kourtni Bradley scored on an Angelica Nunez double to center after reaching on the only Lady Ram error.
Bradshaw struck out the side in the second and third innings to finish with 13 strikeouts while issuing no walks and no earned runs with only one hit.
Westlake hit Iowa’s Samantha Buller early and often to finish with 11 hits in the game.
Kylie Goodeaux started things off for the Lady Rams with a triple down the left field line and scored on a wild pitch. A few batters later, Jordan Buller roped a two-out single to score Hali Corley and Chelsea Evans to give Westlake a 3-0 lead after the first inning.
The Lady Rams then added two runs in the third on two hits and another couple of runs in the fourth on just one hit for a 7-0 lead.
“Offensively we needed to step it up,” said Westlake head coach Jessica Provost. “Sam Buller is a heck of a pitcher and we knew we were going to have to step it up to make some runs and make some things happen.”
Now the Lady Rams await the LHSAA playoff pairings that will be announced on Friday, April 16th
Note: Westlake outscored district opponents 86-7 on their way to the title.
