On June 1, while on patrol in Westlake, two Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies followed a car they observed pull into the backyard of a vacant house on Miller Ave., turning the lights of the car off. As the deputies approached the car to speak with the driver, Joseph B. Ferguson, 29, 2032 Miller Ave., Westlake, they observed an unopened can of Coleman fuel, a siphon and a clear hose on the passenger side floorboard. Ferguson, and the passenger, Heather M. Singleton, 22, 419 You Winn Rd., Moss Bluff, were asked to step out of the car. Deputies obtained permission to search the car and located a package of lithium batteries and a package of clear plastic cups with lids. All items recovered from the car are items that could be used to make methamphetamine.

Detectives with the Combined Anti-Drug Task Force (CAT Team) arrived and searched the house where they recovered more items used for making or operating a clandestine meth lab.
Ferguson and Singleton were both arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with creation/operation of clandestine lab.

Judge Kent Savoie set their bond at $100,000 each.

CPSO Deputy Jeremy Nunez and Reserve Deputy Jeremy Roberts were the arresting deputies.
