Severe weather left its mark on one local high school Wednesday afternoon.
Thunderstorms with high winds rolling through the area caused severe damage to Westlake High School. At 4:11 p.m., a 911 call was made after high winds damaged the Westlake High School football stadium and basketball gym.
The Westlake Ram basketball team was inside the gym at the same time that high winds ripped off the entire west side of the roof. The team was evacuated safely to the main school building.
In addition to the damage to the gym, the press box on the west side of the football stadium was left lodged between the stands and a light pole.
Local law enforcement and emergency personnel made a sweep of the school and all personnel were accounted for and no injuries were reported.
The wind dropped the roof of the gym in the parking lot between the athletic field house and the gym damaging several cars. One was left flipped on its side underneath the aluminum roofing material.
Power outages were reported in the Westlake area due the storm damage.
Responding to the scene were the Westlake Police and Fire Departments, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, Acadian Ambulance, Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, Entergy, and officials with the Calcasieu Parish School System.
