The Westlake Lady Rams continued their dominance of District 4-3A with a 9-0 senior night win over the Church Point Lady Bears on Thursday in Westlake.
Westlake senior third baseman Hali Corley led the offensive effort with a 4-for-4 performance including a first inning two-run home run to start the scoring for the Lady Rams.
"I was very proud of my seniors and Hali Corley stepped up," said Lady Rams' head coach Jessica Provost. "It was a pretty hit; it was just great."
The Lady Rams (16-9-2, 9-0) added two more runs in the third on a two-run single by Jordan Buller to give Westlake a 4-0 lead going into the fourth inning.
Westlake scored four runs in a fourth inning two-out rally including two on a Church Point error. After Kasha Carpenter scored on a wild pitch, Chelsea Evans roped an RBI-single to right to score Corley from third. Anna Jagneaux followed with a single to left and both Jagneaux and Brittany Johnson (courtesy runner for Evans) scored on a throwing error by the Lady Bears’ left fielder to give the Lady Rams an 8-0 lead.
Maggie Bradshaw kept the Church Point offense off-balance allowing just one hit while striking out seven and walking just two.
Church Point (9-16-0, 3-6) picked up their only hit in the game in the sixth inning when R. Dailey hit a ball up the middle for a single.
Bradshaw was helped by a great defensive effort led by her catcher in Evans to shoot down three runners stealing.
"I was very proud of Chelsea, Anna, and Emily (Seabaugh)" said Provost. "We hadn't had many people try to steal on her and she shut them down. As a coach, it's amazing to watch."
Corley added another run in the sixth knocking a triple to deep left-centerfield and scoring on the fourth Lady Bear error of the game.
In addition to Corley's big night, Jordan Buller added a 2-for-3 performance with two RBI's and Evans' 2-for-4 effort with an RBI and a run scored.
Hannah Benoit took the loss for Church Point pitching six innings and allowed six earned runs on 13 hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
With Thursday's win, the Lady Rams clinched a share of the District 3-4A title and will go for the outright championship on Monday when they travel to Iowa at 4:30 p.m.
