A pair of new ordinances were added to the Vinton Town Charter Tuesday night by vote of the Council: one setting a minimum lot size inside the town and one changing the town's animal control guidelines.
Both ordinances were passed unanimously by the Council.
Lots inside the town are now mandated to be a minimum of 6,000 square feet. This will apply to future subdivisions in Vinton; anything currently inside town limits will be grandfathered in.
Town attorney Thad Minaldi told the Vinton News that anyone wishing to go below the minimum would have to ask for an enforcement waiver from the Council, as the Town Charter has no provision for ordinance variances.
The animal control ordinance changes were intended to bring the town's laws regarding animals closer to the parish's laws. The Police Jury enforces the animal control laws in Vinton, and Minaldi said that this change would be helpful to those in enforcement, who had to straddle two different laws depending on if they were inside the town or not.
