After hitting the first batter she faced, UL-Lafayette signee Christina Hamilton mowed down 14 of the next 15 batters she faced to no-hit the Vinton Lady Lions on Monday in Vinton.
The Lady Eagles scored 12 runs to end the District 4-2A game after five innings on the 10-run mercy rule.
Vinton Melody Smith sent the first three batters she faced back to the dugout with a groundout, strikeout and a fly out but errors caught up with the Lady Lions in the second inning.
Rosepine broke the game open in the second with eight runs on five errors and six hits.
Hannah Cardy, Liz Davis and Hamilton each had RBI singles. Ashley Fontenot hit a two-run triple to right field and Sara White hit a RBI double to the left field fence.
White picked up two more RBIs in the third inning on a single and Whitaker added an RBI single in the fifth.
Vinton’s Khristina Richardson was the only batter to reach base for the Lady Lions after being plunked in the first inning. She stole second but was left stranded.
Kolby Gilbert put the ball in play to lead off the second inning for Vinton but was thrown out at first by Rosepine third baseman Desire Whitaker.
White went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run and Whitaker went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
In the boys’ game between Rosepine and Vinton, Samuel Peterson set the tone for the game as he combined with three other pitchers to throw a one hitter in an 18-0 win over the Lions.
Peterson pitched the first two innings and struck out all six batters he faced but Russell was credited with the win after striking out three in the third inning.
Vinton’s Colton Lavergne broke up the no-hitter with an infield single in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Vinton’s Dylan Boudreaux held back the Eagles allowing just one run in the top of the first inning after loading the bases but was not as fortunate in the second inning.
Rosepine scored seven runs on one hit and two errors in the second with the help of five walks.
Peterson went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and three runs scored. Brandon Russell hit a grand slam in the fourth inning and finished with five RBIs.
Boudreaux took the loss for Vinton allowing six runs on one hit in one inning of work. He walked six batters struck out one and hit one batter.
Vinton will play at home again on Thursday against Anacoco.
