Vinton-Rogerio Flores, 73, died Thursday, August 14, 2008, in a Port Arthur, Texas hospital.
Rogerio was born July 1, 1935 in Mercedes, Texas to Gonzalo and Maria Flores. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and later served one tour in Vietnam. After retiring from the military, he made his home in Lake Charles where he worked for the Louisiana Department of Transportation for 20 years. Flores had been a resident of Vinton for the last 15 years. Roger will be most remembered for his kind heart and giving ways.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 15 years, Etheleen “Tillie” Flores of Vinton; five sons, Roger Flores and wife, Charlotte of Moss Bluff, Kenneth Brunet of Lake Charles, Emmett Brunet of Columbus, Ohio, Rodney Brunet and wife, Nora of Slidell, and David Brunet of Altus, Oklahoma; one daughter, Regina Trahan and husband, Adam of Lake Charles; three step-children, Gary Broomes and wife, Theresa of Pasadena, Texas, Billy Broomes of Port Barre, and Marie Broomes of Vinton; three brothers, Eleazar “Charo” Flores and wife, Cirila, Hector Flores and wife, Angela, and Gonzalo “Tito” Flores, Jr. and wife, Rosa; three sisters, Ofelia Lopez and husband, Fidel, Mary Flores and husband, Catarino, all of Brownsville, Texas and Rosita Vela of Houston, Texas; 27 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his late wife, Ouida Vawter Flores; his parents; one brother, Pedro Flores; one son, Gary Brunet; and one grandchild, Elyse Flores.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, August 18, in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Susil Fernando will officiate. Burial will be in Niblett’s Bluff Cemetery in Vinton under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton. Visitation is from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. today with a rosary service at 6 p.m. and from 9 a.m. on Monday in the funeral home. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at.
