Sulphur, La. -

SULPHUR–The last time the Sulphur Cyclones played the American Legion Post 520 Jeff Davis Bank Bankers, the Cyclones collected 10 hits and battled for over three hours and 10 innings for a 14-12 win. But on Friday, Sulphur’s offense struggled, ending their five game win streak with an 8-5 loss at home to the Bankers from Jennings.

The Bankers used three pitchers in the game who nearly combined for a no-hitter before Sulphur's Loren Saucier hit a two RBI single to left field with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

Saucier two-run single was part of a four run rally in the bottom of the seventh that was reminiscent of the Cyclones when they scored eight run in the seventh to force extra inning in their first game against the Bankers.

Sulphur (5-3) scored one run on a bases loaded walk and Stephen Billeaudeau hit a groundout RBI before Saucier’s two-run shot but it was too little too late.

The Banker also struggled on offense with just two hits in the first three innings but capitalized on Sulphur miscues to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first with one run on an error and another on a sacrifice fly by Kelsey Richard.

The Cyclones cut the Bankers lead in half in the bottom of the first, as the Bankers committed two errors.

Stefan Trosclair reached base on an error with one out and moved to second on a wild pitch and Jennings’ Keagan Kratzer hit the next two batters to load the bases.

Brennum Conway then hit a short dribbler down the third base line. Kratzer picked up the ball and instead of throwing home for the force out, he attempted to tag Trosclair. Instead of tagging Trosclair with the ball in his glove, Kratzer kept the ball in his throwing hand and tagged Trosclair with an empty glove. The ruling on the field was that the tag was no good because the ball was not in the glove allowing Trosclair to score on the error by Kratzer.

Errors plagued both teams as they committed five errors apiece.

Jennings added to their lead in the top of the third with a run on a wild pitch and three runs in the fourth on a RBI triple by Travis Legros, an RBI single by Cody Helmick and an error to take a 6-1 lead.

Jennings added single runs in the sixth on an RBI single by Helmick and in the seventh on an RBI ground out by Spencer Marceaux.

Helmick led the Bankers at the plate going 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Kollan Richard went 2-for-2 with one run.

Kendal Daigle started on the mound for Sulphur and took the loss. He allowed three runs on two hits with four walks and two hit batters in two and two-thirds innings or work.

Kratzer picked up the win for Jennings while allowing one run no hits in five innings of work. Kratzer struck out four while walking two and hitting two batters.

Sulphur’s next game will be at home on Monday at 6 p.m. against DeRidder.
