The Post 179 Drillers scored 13 runs in the fourth inning to take a 18-7 win over the Post 1 Jaxx-Orange on Tuesday at McMurry Park in Sulphur.
The Drillers (8-2) went into the bottom of the fourth trailing 6-5.
Brentley Sorge led off the big inning for the Drillers with a triple to center field and scored on a single by Trey Henson. Post 1‘s Lucas Leger walked the next two batters before Blake Rhodes hit a two run single to center to make the score 8-6, Drillers.
Post 179 capped the 13 run inning with a Henson hit a three run triple and a two run single by Charlie LeBouef to give the Drillers a 18-6 lead.
In the fourth inning, the Drillers had the 13 runs on eight hits and one error.
Post 1 attempted to extend the game in the top of the fifth inning, but only scored one run on a Driller error to make the final score 18-7.
After the Drillers had taken a 5-1 lead in the first two innings, the Jaxx loaded the bases for Chris Stout who hit a base clearing triple to right center field to make the score 5-4.
After a sacrifice ground out by Tanner Helms to score Stout from second, Lucas Leger roped a single down the third base line. Leger attempted to steal second and was safe on the throw from Tanner Theriot. The ball got by the middle infield of the Drillers and Leger advanced to third and attempted to take home.
Theriot caught the ball coming from the outfield and Leger collided with Theriot at the plate to knock the ball out. Theriot dropped the ball because of the collision and was injured on the play while Leger was safe for the go ahead run, 6-5 Jaxx.
Theriot was helped off the field and did not return.
All but one Driller starter scored a run for Post 179 with Jacob Theriot leading with four runs scored while going 0-for-1 with three walks. Rhodes lead the Post 179 offense with a 3-for-4 with five RBI’s and three runs scored. Henson added a 2-for-2 performance with four RBI’s.
Stout led the Jaxx with a 1-for-3 performance with a triple and three RBI’s.
Theriot took the win for the Drillers with five innings pitched allowing four earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts.
