The Louisiana Swashbucklers secured home field advantage in the Southern Indoor Football League playoffs with a 78-26 win over the Texas Hurricanes on Monday night at the Lake Charles Civic Center.
The Bucs defense controlled the line of scrimmage to hold former Heisman runner-up Michael Bishop to 141 yards passing (17-for-45 with four interceptions) and 13 yards rushing while tackling the former Kansas State quarterback for three sacks.
Louisiana (9-1) took an early lead six minutes into the game when Alvin Barite connected with Marcus Wilridge for a 19-yard touchdown pass to take a 7-0 first quarter lead.
After Texas (1-6) converted on a field goal attempt and the Hurricanes picked up a defensive stop, White cornered Bishop in the end zone for a safety to extend the Swashbuckler lead to 9-3.
After a 46-yard return by Courtney Allen, Bartie ran in the ball from four yards out to further extend the lead to 15-3.
The Hurricanes started to make a move to climb back in the ball game in the second period as Chris Maravagolia made a 23 yard field goal for Texas in the first three seconds of the second quarter to make the score 15-6.
After the Texas defense held the Bucs to a field goal attempt, Bishop led the Hurricanes down the field completing two passes, one to Miquel Toulon for 12 yards and another to Jarrod Fuller for a 33 yard touchdown pass to make the score 15-13, Louisiana.
After being held scoreless for nearly 14 minutes in the second quarter, Bartie completed a four-yard pass to Kirt Duhon to make the 22-13 halftime score.
Texas’ Damon Richard picked off Bartie to start off the third quarter and returned the ball to the end zone to draw within two points of the Bucs, 22-20.
But the Swashbuckler defense stepped up and the offense dominated the Hurricanes to score 35 unanswered points to take a commanding 57-26 lead in the fourth quarter.
Freddie Harrison came in the game in the fourth quarter and went 3-for-3 passing with three touchdowns and 68 yards in the fourth quarter to lead to the 78-26 win.
Bartie finished the game going 12-for-22 with 174 yards and four touchdowns and two interceptions.
Wilridge led all receivers with seven catches for 119 yards and three touchdowns.
Allen led the rushing attack for the Bucs with 20 yards on the ground.
Louisiana will travel to Houma to finish the regular season against the Conquerors.
