LAKE CHARLES–The Westlake Lady Rams couldn't hold onto an 11 point halftime lead in a 65-62 double overtime loss to the Barbe Lady Bucs on Thursday at the Cameron State Bank/Lake Charles Toyota Southwest Shootout held at Barbe High School.
Barbe opened the second half with two quick three's to cut the Westlake advantage to five, 26-18. But the Lady Rams ended the third period with a 10-0 run to take a 40-30 lead into the final quarter of regulation.
The Lady Rams (6-4) started to have trouble on the offensive end of the floor that gave Barbe a chance to climb back into the game. The Lady Bucs took advantage of Westlake miscues for a 9-2 run to make the score 46-44, Westlake with 2:30 left in the fourth quarter.
Barbe's Catherine Moore hit a bucket with 1:05 left in regulation to send the game into overtime, 46-46.
The Lady Bucs jumped out to an early 49-46 lead in overtime, but Westlake went on a 7-2 run to take a 53-51 lead with 41 seconds left on the clock.
Nine seconds later, Maya Tunwar picked up her fifth foul of the night to send Candace Booker to the line. Booker hit both free throws to extend the game into a second overtime, 53-53.
The Lady Rams were the first to score in the second extra period and led as much as four, 59-55. But the Westlake offense went cold down the stretch and the Barbe offense took advantage with eight points in the last two minutes to the Lady Rams' three.
Booker led all scorers with 24 points with Moore and Baylie Lee each adding 12 points for the Lady Bucs.
Kylie Goodeaux scored a team-high 18 points for Westlake with Jase Johnson (16pts) and Tunwar (10pts) also scoring in double figures.
Westlake will look to snap their two-game losing streak today when they take on Sam Houston at 4:30 p.m.
