Two-time defending Class B champion Oak Hill got a two-hit shutout from pitcher Amber Jarrel to defeat Converse 7-0 in the Class B quarterfinals on Friday.
Jarrel struck out four and walked one, while going 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and two runs.
Converse turned two double plays in the game but Oak Hill broke the game open with five runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Lady Rams put together four straight hits to start the bottom of the fourth with Courtney Ivey leading off with a triple to left field. Courtney Barton brought her home on a single while Jarrel, Catie Smith Nikki Jarrell and Brooke McManus each had RBIs in the inning.
Converse did not get a runner past first base.
Barton went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI while McManus finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
No. 12 Choudrant 6, No. 4 Holden 5
Holden pulled within one run in the bottom of the sixth but could not come up with anything in the seventh inning of a Class B quarterfinal 6-5 loss to Choudrant.
After falling behind 2-1 in the first inning, Choudrant got two runs in the top of the third to take the lead. Krista Howard hit an RBI single then scored on a double by Taylor Oglesbee.
Holden's Lea Roberts drove in two runs on a single in the bottom of the first to give Holden a 2-1 lead.
Haley Grantham took the loss for Holden despite striking out eight.
Julie Smith pitched a complete game in the win for Choudrant while allowing three five runs on three hits.
No. 6 Avoyelles Charter 8, No. 3 Simpson 4
Avoyelles Charter racked up 10 hits to beat Simpson 8-4 in the Class B quarterfinals on Friday.
Simpson struggled on defense with six errors and had just four hits.
All eight of Avoyelles runs were unearned and they ended the game with a double play in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Ashley Coker led Avoyelles at the plate going 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs while Makenzie Foreman 1-for-3 with three RBIs.
McKenzie Kelly went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a double for Simpson.
