The No. 4 Sulphur Tors are getting close to clinching the District 3-5A title but with three games to go on the district schedule they will not be coasting to the finish.
“We still have some work to do,” Tor basketball head coach Clint LeBato said. “There is not anything guaranteed yet.
“We have to make sure not to look ahead past Tuesday.”
Of the Tors’ remaining four games three will be at home.
“We need to take advantage of our remaining schedule,” LeBato said. “We have three of the last four at home.
“We would like to take care of that home court advantage. We would just like to see people come out to see us play.”
The Tors (24-5, 5-0) will play a dangerous Acadiana (15-14, 2-3) team today at home (JV 5 p.m./Varsity 7:30 p.m.) that is coming off an overtime upset of Lafayette, 59-54.
Guards Tremaine James and Tristan Arceneaux combined for 36 of Acadiana’s 59 points against Lafayette.
The Tors beat Acadiana 55-32 in the first district meeting while holding both guards to under 12 points. Sulphur will need a similar defensive effort this time.
“We have to do a good job,” LeBato said. “They have two good guards that can score.
“If we can contain those two we should be ok. We did a good job on their two guards (in the first game).”
Although they won by a large margin the first time the two teams met, LeBato does not expect it to be the same this go around.
“We have to be ready for something new that Acadiana might throw at us,” LeBato said. “Usually in the second round teams find something new to throw at you.”
