McNeese State golf coach Neel DeRouen has announced his 2009 signing class, one that includes local standout Ben Suarez.
A transfer from Louisiana Tech, Suarez is joined on the recruiting list by Logan LaJack of Opelousas Catholic High and Jordan Kenny Anderson of Leesville High.
“It could be one of our stronger recruiting classes,” DeRouen said. “Ben will help a lot and Logan and Jordan are players who will develop. All three of these guys have very good work ethics and are going to be great additions to our team.”
Suarez was a standout during his prep days at Suphur High, leading his team to a state championship in 2006. He just recently was the only local player to qualify for the sectionals of the 2009 US Open.
The 19 year old spent two years at Louisiana Tech, redshirting his first year and then playing in four tournaments the past season, posting a 76 scoring average.
In recent years he has played in the USGA Junior Amateur (2006), the Callaway Junior World (2004) and the Optimist Junior World (2005).
LaJack earned all-state honors all four of his years on the Opelousas Catholic High golf team. He finished fourth in the 2009 tournament, sixth in the 2008, third in 2007 and 11th in 2006.
He is currently playing on the Arrowhead Junior golf tour and has had a third, 12th and 16th place finish in tournaments. During the past prep season he finished second in the Lousiana tournament of champions and was invited to play in the Louisiana Junior Cup matches.
Anderson, a graduate of Leesville High, is presently ranked No. 3 on the Arrowhead golf tour, having won two tournaments (at Pelican Point and Kosati Pines) and finished second in a third.
In the past two state high school tournaments, he finished in the top five and the top 10. He also graduated No. 1 in his class at Leesville High.
