Pineville, La. -

For the second consecutive year, the Sulphur Lady Tors reached the semifinals of the Pineville Rebel Cup but fell to Division I No. 4 Mandeville 3-0 on Saturday ending their title hopes.

"Ultimately we wanted to win the tournament but we ran in to a tough team," Lady Tor head coach Todd Hoffpauir said. "They played extremely well.

"First day of the tournament was solid. We scored some goals and got some victories by we let some easy goals in the first day."

The Lady Tors opened the tournament on Friday with wins over Ouachita and West Ouachita.

Sulphur avenged their semifinal loss last year with a 3-0 shutout of Menard in the quarterfinals.

It didn't take long for the Lady Tors to get on the board when their leading scorer Hilarie Grigsby scored just one minute into the game on an assist from Carmen Rodriguez.

Grigsby struck again in the 25th minute off of an assists from Alexzandra Zambrano for her 14th goal of the season.

Jade Richard closed out the scoring for Sulphur with a goal just two minutes in to the second half.

It was the third shutout of the season for the Lady Tors but they found themselves on the wrong end of a shutout in the semifinals as they lost to Division I No. 4 Mandeville 3-0 to bow out of the tournament.

"We worked on our defense to prepare for Saturday," Hoffpauir said. "We showed up in the first game and had a shutout. I thought our defense played exceptionally well but we had some unfortunate goals go against us (versus Mandeville).

"We kind of got a little flustered when we got on their side of the field and didn't make our shots count."

The Lady Tors first win of the tournament came early Friday morning with a 3-1 win over Ouachita.

Mary Moore opened up the scoring with a goal in the 12th minute off of an assist from Zambrano.

But the Lady Lions came right back with a goal in the 20th minute to tie the game at 1-1 when Brittany Landry slipped through the Lady Tors defense for an unassisted goal.

Sulphur regrouped in the second half and got an opportunity for a corner kick just two minutes into the half.

Grigsby sent a nice floater near the top of the goal box and Zambrano headed it in to give the Lady Tors a 2-1 lead.

Playing in her first game since returning from a preseason injury, Rodriguez picked up her first goal of the season midway through the second half. Ouachita goalkeeper Sydney Lengefeld deflected a shot by Grigsby but the defense was not able to clear the ball and Rodriguez put the ball in the back of the net to give Sulphur a 3-1 lead.

The Lady Tors closed out pool play on Friday with a 4-1 win over West Ouachita behind Grigsby's second hat trick of the season.

Grigsby scored two goals in the first half and one in the second and Zambrano added a goal in the first half on a penalty kick.

The Lady Tors will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to DeRidder. The varsity will play at 5:30 p.m. followed by the junior varsity game.
