The 27th annual Sulphur City Golf Championship will begin on Friday at Frasch Park Golf Course and run through Sunday.
Sulphur High graduate and current McNeese State University golfer Cory Vincent is the defending champion. Vincent won last year’s championship on the third hole of a sudden-death playoff over Nathan Anderson.
The Executive Flight will begin on Friday with tee times starting at 12:30 p.m. All other flights will start on Saturday.
Vincent will be attempting to become the first golfer to win back-to-back titles since Lawrence David II won three in a row from 1987-1989. He also finished as the runner-up in he Cameron St. Bank Lake Charles City Championship back in June.
The field includes former champions Craig Trosclair (‘94) and Jimmy Guidry (‘90, ‘93) and 2007 Lake Charles City champion Blake DeReese.
Also in the executive Flight is Vincent’s twin brother Cody Vincent and former Sulphur High golfer Jacob Lejeune who currently plays for Nicholls State University in Thibodeaux, La.
Possibly the youngest player in the tournament is Sutton Farmer who will be playing in the Executive flight. He took second place at the Louisiana Golf Association’s Junior Amateur tournament in the 14-year old division in July.
