The Sam Houston Lady Broncos went 3-0 on Saturday to win their pool in the St. Louis Catholic High School Varsity Softball Spectacular in Lake Charles.

Sam Houston allowed just two runs in three games, as they opened up the tournament with a 9-1 over Oberlin, followed by a 3-1 win over Rosepine and a 3-0 shutout of Barbe.

The Sam Houston Lady Broncos lit up Oberlin’s Janie Gradney for 12 hits on their way to a 9-1 win early Saturday to open the St. Louis tournament.

Kim Kennedy hit a three run homer in the first inning to get the show started for the Lady Broncos and gave them a 3-0 lead after one inning of play.

Sam Houston put up three runs in the second, two in the third, and one in the fourth to take a 9-0 lead going into the fifth inning.

Oberlin was able to score their only run of the game in the fifth inning when Logane Fuselier hit into a fielder’s choice scoring Quita Boulden.

Brianna Granger started the game for the Lady Broncos and pitched three innings, struck out four, and walked three to pick up the win. Pam Wainwright pitched the fourth and fifth innings and allowed one hit and the one run.

Karli Wainwright led the Sam Houston hitters with a perfect 3-for-3 performance with two runs scored and two stolen bases.

Rosepine Lady Eagles’ pitcher Christina Hamilton was able to keep the Sam Houston Lady Broncos bats quiet until the fourth inning, but the Lady Broncos broke the scoreless game on their way to their second win of the game with a 3-1 victory over the Lady Eagles.

Pam Wainwright broke the scoreless game when she smashed the ball over the left center fence for a solo home run. Taylor Wood brought in Kim Kennedy and Brandi Reed when she hit a ball past the pitcher and the second baseman had trouble making the play as the ball went into the outfield.

Hanna Welburn scored Rosepine’s only run when pinch hitter Ashley Fontenot knocked a ball through the middle of the field. But the Sam Houston defense fought off the rally to get the 3-1 win.

Brianna Granger pitched a complete game for Sam Houston to strike out eight batters while allowing one run on three hits.

Wainwright went 1-for-2 lead the Sam Houston offense with a home run and an RBI. Reed went 2-for-2 at the plate and scored a run.
