St. Louis Catholic won its second Jesse James Southwest Shootout title in three years on Saturday.

St. Louis, Sulphur and South  Beauregard each had four champion wrestlers, but the Saints came out top with 183 points. Sulphur, last year’s champion, finished with 158 points, and South Beauregard scored 125 points.

In the 126-pound championship match, St. Louis senior Alex Yokubaitis (50-1) shot in and grabbed Sulphur’s Trent Trouth’s (27-11) ankle and got two points but Trouth was able to escape to cut the lead to 2-1. Yokubaitis went on score a technical fall by winning 17-2.

Yokubaitis outscored his three opponents Saturday 47-2.

Sam Houston junior Gabriel Reed (39-9) won a close decision in the 152-pound championship match over St. Louis’ John-Patrick Broussard (35-10). It was his second one-point win of the day.

Reed took an early 5-0 lead, but Broussard pulled within a point, 6-5, late in the first period with a takedown.

Broussard escaped from Reed again with 42 seconds left in the final period and trailed 9-8, but couldn’t take Reed down.

Sulphur’s Hunter Gustin  (30-5) rolled to the 160-pound title by pinning Barbe’s Nikolas Ja Altran and St. Louis’ Shreve Gage in under two minutes. In the finals, he never trailed and scored a major decision with a 14-2 win in over St. Louis’ John Reina (26-13).
