NATCHITOCHES — The Sulphur Lady Tor volleyball ended a two-match losing streak by going 4-0 at the Natchitoches Central over the weekend.

Sulphur (12-11) will start district play at home Tuesday agaisnt Lafayette (8-12) at 6 p.m.

Sulphur opened the tournament with a 25-18, 23-25, 15-13 win over Episcopal of Acadiana.  ESA beat Sulphur in two sets , 20-25, 12-25, a month ago at the Westlake tournament.

Keelie Seaford had 13 assists and seven kills and Cara Murphy had a match-high 12 kills. Vega Tower was solid on the defensive side with 25 kills, Dahli Dennis had 13 assists and Erika Whittington added five kills.

Sulphur closed out play on Friday with a 25-21, 25-10 win over the host Lady Cheifs with 14 combined kills from Murphy (9) and Bridget Trahan (5).

On Saturday, Sulphur beat Airline 25-18, 25-23 and Captain Shreve 25-13, 25-4.

Against Airline, Dennis and Seaford led the way with five kills each.

Seaford served up six aces in the win over Captain Shreve. Murphy added nine kills and Dennnis finished with five.


Westlake 3, Iota 1

IOTA — Division III No. 3 Westlake extended its win streak to eight matches on Thursday with a 25-27, 25-12, 25-21, 25-9 road win over Iota.

Westlake has not lost since September 21st.

Keonda Jounston led Westlake (16-3) with 21 kills, 18 digs, five blocks and two aces. Catherine Armentor added 15 kills, four aces and 18 digs and Desiree Jackson added eight kills. Riley Rhodes was credited with 41 assists and four aces and Kayla Kennedy had a match-high 19 digs.

Westlake will open district play at Vinton on Thursday.

Teurlings Cath. 3, Sulphur 0

LAFAYETTE — Sulphur dropped a road nondistrict match to Division II No. 2 Teurlings Catholic (25-4) on Thursday 13-25, 12-25, 16-25.

It was the Lady Tors second consecutive loss after putting together a season-high six-match win streak.

Cara Murphy led Sulphur seven kills and Dahli Dennis finished with four. Vega Tower made seven digs and Keelie Seaford had 10 assists.
