MONROE – Top-ranked West Monroe flexed its muscle on Friday with 12 hits to win 9-1 over No. 9 Sulphur in the first game of a best-of-three quarterfinal playoff series.

Sulphur looked like it out get out of the second inning trailing West Monroe by just one run but Chase DeJean hit a two-run home run followed by a solo shot by Jacob Pearson. Ryan Cupit added a RBI single to put the Rebels up 5-0.

Sulphur got a run back in the third inning when Scott Jones hit a RBI single but that would be all the Tors would manage against Rebel ace Austin Booth who finished with eight strikeouts.

Sulphur junior Chance Stone (9-5) struck out the first two batters in the bottom of the sixth but the Rebels again mounted a two-out rally scoring four runs.

Stone took the loss despite striking out 10 and walking just two batters. He was tagged for eight runs on 10 hits in five and two-third innings.
