A look back at some of the top individual performances during the eighth week (April 10th through April 16th) of the 2017 prep softball and baseball season in the Southwest Daily News coverage area.
Gabe Buxton • Westlake HS • Sr.
The senior has come on strong for the Rams in the final weeks of the season and extended his hitting streak to five games last week with a pair of multi-hit games while batting .500 in 10 plate appearances. He went 3-for-4 with two RBI in an 11-8 loss to Iowa on Wednesday, April 12th.
Chris Colley • Sam Houston HS • Sr.
Colley went 5-for-9 with pair of multi-hit games last week. He has hit safely in 13 of his last 15 games to raise season average to .433. On Thursday, April 13th, Colley went 2-for-3 and drove in the Broncos’ only run in 6-1 loss to Sulphur.
Brayden Winn • Westlake HS • Sr.
Winn gave up seven runs, three earned, but held on to pitch a complete game in an 11-7 win over St. Louis last Monday, April 10th. He finished with four strikeouts and five walks and went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs at the plate.
Barron Simon • Sam Houston HS • Jr.
Simon pitched his first complete game of the season on April 11th to lead Sam Houston to a 10-0 win over Comeaux. He held the Spartans to just three hits while posting six strikeouts to just one walk in five innings to improve to 4-0.
Will Dion • Sulphur HS • Jr.
Dion pitched his third complete game on Thursday, April 13th, to lead the Tors to a 6-1 win over District 3-5A leading Sam Houston. He allowed just one run on three hits with four strikeouts and four walks to lower his earned run average to 2.29.
Taylor Lobue • Sulphur HS • Sr.
In her final game as a Lady Tor, Lobue had a game to remember but unfortunately it was not enough to propel Sulphur into the playoffs. Lobue went 3-for-3 with a double plus a three-run homerun in an 8-7 loss to Leesville. Lobue finished the season with five homeruns and 25 RBIs.
Chesni Jones • Sulphur HS • Sr.
The junior first baseman finished the season on a five-game hitting streak. Against Leesville last week, she went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a three-run homerun.
Audrey Fisher • Westlake HS • So.
Fisher went 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and two runs to lead Westlake to a 9-8 win over St. Louis last week to seal up the Lady Rams’ first district title since 2009.
Jordan Lafosse • Sam Houston HS • So.
Lafosse extended her hitting streak to five games last week after hitting .667. In a 6-5 loss to Notre Dame on Tuesday, April 11th, Lafosse went 2-for-3 with a double and a run.
Baleigh Glover • Westlake HS • Sr.
Pitching in her first game in over a month and with starter Myka Lester sidelined, Glover, a Northwestern State signee, helped the Lady Rams wrap up their first district title since 2010. Glover struck out a season high eight batters and walked five while holding St. Louis to eight runs, five earned, on five hits.
