MOSS BLUFF — Sam Houston senior southpaw Will Thompson mowed down 11 batters on Tuesday to lead the Broncos to a 3-0 win over Sacred Heart.

It was Thompson’s second shutout of the season as he improved to 3-0. He has allowed just two earned runs in 16 innings on the mound. Thompson scattered six hits and walked one batter.

Sam Houston, who improved to 11-0, is ranked No. 1 in Class 5A in the latest LHSAA power rankings released on March 5th.

Sam Houston struggled at the plate until the bottom of the fifth inning when Justin Duplichan led off with a double to left field. Pinch runner Judson Derouen moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Brandon Goodeaux. After leadoff batter Branden Duhon was walked, Derouen scored on an error and Duhon came hom on a sacrifice fly by Hunter Goatreaux.

SULPHUR — Sulphur won another one-run game Tuesday after hanging on for a 3-2 win over 2018 Class 3A semifinalist Brusly at home.

Down 1-0, Sulphur (7-4) scratched out three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Ben Broussard led off with a single and later stole home to tie the game. Kade Faulk scored the go-ahead run on a single to left field by Jake Barrilleaux, who scored the third run on an error.

Chris Phelps (3-1) went the distance for the Tors while pitching a one-hitter. He gave up two runs, both unearned, struck out six and walked one batter.
