MONROE — The Sulphur Tors’ season ended in Monroe on Saturday at the hands of 5A No. 1 West Monroe. The Rebels swept the quarterfinal series 2-0 with a 5-2 win.

West Monroe extended its state leading win streak to 27 games and avenged a loss to the Tors in the 2015 quarterfinals.

West Monroe score single runs in the first and third inning on Slade Bolden’s sacrifice fly and a Carson Jones’ solo home run.

Back-to-back doubles in the top of the fifth inning by Tom Biggs and Robert Scott Foust put West Monroe up 4-0 before the Tors scored two in the bottom half of the inning. Will Lavergne led off with a single and the Tors scored both runs on bases loaded walks.

Taylor Young got the win for the Rebels after holding the Tors to two runs on three hits in five and two-third innings while Biggs got the save after pitching a scoreless seventh inning.

Junior Will Dion (3-4) took the loss for the Tors are allowing four earned runs on seven hits in four and two-third innings.

West Monroe 9, Sulphur 1

MONROE — The top-ranked West Monroe flexed its muscle on Friday with 12 hits to win 9-1 over No. 9 Sulphur in the first game of a best-of-three quarterfinal playoff series.

Sulphur looked like it out get out of the second inning trailing West Monroe by just one run but Chase DeJean hit a two-run home run followed by a solo shot by Jacob Pearson. Ryan Cupit added a RBI single to put the Rebels up 5-0.

Sulphur got a run back in the third inning when Scott Jones hit a RBI single but that would be all the Tors would manage against Rebel ace Austin Booth who finished with eight strikeouts.

Sulphur junior Chance Stone (9-5) struck out the first two batters in the bottom of the sixth but the Rebels again mounted a two-out rally scoring four runs.

Stone took the loss despite striking out 10 and walking just two batters. He was tagged for eight runs on 10 hits in five and two-third innings.
