BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — For Les Miles, who has become accustomed to bringing LSU highly-rated recruiting classes year after year, it was tough to ignore the fact that some coveted prospects got away this time.
First, safety Landon Collins, arguably the top prospect in Louisiana, chose Alabama over the Tigers. Then quarterback Gunner Kiel of Columbus, Ind., backed away from his verbal commitment to LSU and instead enrolled in January at Notre Dame.
McNeese State announced the signing of 20 outstanding high school football players Wednesday.
“We’re excited about this group,” said head coach Matt Viator. “We have addressed our needs not only for next year but for years to come.”
Among the recruits are wide receiver Damon Gladney Jr. of Haughton High and tailback Alex Johnson of Carencro High, both all-state performers and two of most recruited players in the state.

MOSS BLUFF — In their first post season game in 10 years, the Sam Houston Broncos will hit the road on Saturday to take on the Dutchtown Griffins at 6 p.m.
SULPHUR-The Sulphur Tors held Sam Houston to just 17 points in the first half but offensively the Tors struggled going 16-of-40 from the field losing to the Broncos 42-36 on Tuesday in District 3-5A action.

SULPHUR-The Sulphur Lady Tors once again used their suffocating full court press to perfection Tuesday night in a 57-26 blowout win over Sam Houston in District 3-5A action.
Sulphur (20-7, 6-3) hounded the Lady Broncos (14-14, 2-7) into 22 turnovers while holding their 6'1” freshman center Samantha Logan to just eight points.

SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — North Louisiana has landed the 2012 UKC Coonhound Championships and the UKC World Bench Championships for this fall.
Thanks to the efforts of the 4-Way Coon Hunting Club in Doyline and to the Shreveport-Bossier City Sports Commission, approximately 1,500 hunters and dogs from across the country will invade Hamel's Park on Sept. 20-22 seeking points by treeing raccoons.
