At the age of 61, I have had the privilege of a unique perspective on recent history. I have lived through a period when a major part of the life cycle of socialism played itself out in parts of the world. I watched its seeds of socialism planted in Eastern Europe blow across Asia, Africa, South and Central America, and Cuba. I was able to watch its normal life cycle from Embryonic Socialism to Communism, and in some cases to Totalitarianism. It seemed to happen over night! After several decades, I was relieved to see the Wall come down and Communism largely wither and die, while Capitalism thrived and prospered. I hoped never again to see humanity go through such horrible abuse and suffering. Now, almost beyond my ability to belief it, I am seeing it happen all over again, but this time in my beloved America. In only half of a year, the insanity of Socialism has taken root in our society while Capitalism is being systematically dismantled.
I have heard the declarations that this is not socialism and that the federal government has no intentions of taking over private business. But what name other than Socialism defines this scenario that is quickly becoming American life; my life?
Each month I send my car payment to a GM lending institution owned by the government. When I choose to trade-in, I’ll go to one of the government owned GM dealerships and drive away in a car made in a government owned factory built to government specs instead of to my options.
If the government has its way, I’ll pay home mortgage payments to a government owned mortgage company (many Americans already do).
I’ll soon be buying electricity from a government owned (or at least government directed) utility company paying 50 to 90 percent higher payments.
I’ll be living in a “green home” that has been retro designed to meets government mandates.
I’ll make monthly health insurance payments to the government.
My insurance payments will be taxed to pay for the health care of people who choose not to pay for their own.
When I need medical attention, I’ll go to a government-operated health care facility on a government time schedule and take government prescribed medicine.
I will be discouraged from real estate speculation, for extra income, by inflated capital gain taxes.
I will find it unprofitable to engage in entrepreneurialism because of heavy taxation if I am blessed with success. Punishing success has a negative affect on motivation.
I will avoid building a business that creates jobs because of unreasonable employee benefits mandates.
Then, one day, I’ll pass this American Dream on to my children and grandchildren.
This scenario concerns me deeply. I find it almost incredible that such a horrible thing could happen to such a great nation. I am learning that freedom is fragile and expensive. It requires constant attention, superhuman/divine wisdom, and self-sacrifice on the part of every citizen.
It is incredible that our President and Congress would embrace and promote such an obviously, destructive agenda. Please GOD, BLESS AMERICA!
