I am John Lamar, head of the local Marine Corps League in Southwest Louisiana, and I want everyone to know something. Charles Norman, commandant of the state was the one out of order at the recent City Council meeting. As well, Council member Nancy Tower is out of order. She's wrong in getting Norman down here, with him acting as if he represents all of the Marine Corps League and the Vietnam Veterans. I'm speaking here for MY Marine Corps League, Detachment 1157.
It's not about us participating in an Armed Forces committee. Sulphur doesn't have anything (like a Civic Center) to host such a big party. Sulphur doesn't have the facilities. People are calling me already for Memorial Day, wanting us here, wanting us there. We can't be in seven places at one time? What's the Armed Forces Committee going to do? The reason that the Marine Corps League, my detachment, is here is because of the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury. They give us $15,000 to work with. Council member Tower is trying to do this, trying to do that with the Marine Corps League, while the Council and the City of Sulphur does not give the League one red penny.
