Sulphur Parks & Recreation in conjunction with Sulphur High School wishes to thank all the many who have loaned their helping hands in hosting the past nine (9) LHSAA State Softball Tournaments better known to us as Fast Pitch 56. As we prepare for next years tenth tournament SPAR would like to commend everyone who has contributed in making this a premier championship event. Each tournament enjoys the services of over 250 volunteers and workers along with corporate sponsors, hotels, and restaurants. The Lake Charles American Press, Southwest Daily News, KPLC TV and other media outlets have spent untold hours covering and promoting the tournament as the special event it truly is. A special note of recognition must be given to the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, the City of Sulphur, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, Calcasieu Parish School Board and other local government agencies to include the Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the City of Lake Charles who go far and beyond to help us. Our ranks are drawn from all parts of Southwest Louisiana working together to put the special “it” in the Fast Pitch Championship. The Fast Pitch 56 Event brings approximately 20,000 people through the gates of North Frasch Park and contributes several million dollars of economic benefit to the local economy. As we prepare to host #10 and bid on 2011 & 2012 our thoughts are of the tremendous out pouring of thanks and compliments from the LHSAA, the teams, fans and newspapers for Sulphur’s workers and volunteers. They all agree it is the warm and helpful people that make the difference. Thank you for helping us set an attendance record in 2009, one of many we have set over the years. Without the contributions of so many this would just be another tournament not the special happening it has become that creates a lifetime of memories for the players, fans and schools. A quote in The Shreveport Times may have said it best “The town of sulphur will not turn up on many google searches when it comes to vacation hot spots – unless it involves Louisiana high school softball. The two have become as intertwined as Omaha and the College World Series.” From our heart “Thanks for the Helping Hands.”
