Emanuel A. “Slim” Rike, Sr., 86, died at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2008, in his home.
Forever in our hearts will be this loving husband, father, grandfather and faithful friend. E. A. (Slim) passed away peacefully at home with God and his loving family by his side. E. A. was born and raised in Mitchell, Louisiana. He served on the USS North Carolina in the US Marine Corp during WWII, and was honorably discharged and received a Purple Heart. Playing basketball was a favorite sport for Slim prior to having his children. He worked for the Kansas City Railroad prior to his employment at Cities Service Oil Company, where he retired as Shop Foreman after 35 years. During his retirement years he enjoyed a leisurely life of fishing, traveling, and playing dominoes with friends. Relaxing on Toledo Bend Lake was heaven on earth! His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Having overcome most of his physical ailments, God decided brain cancer would be his last battle on earth. He will be sorely missed by one and all who knew him.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years Margie Rike of Sulphur; son Andy Rike and his wife Elizabeth Perry of Houston, Texas; daughter Connie Rike Basinger and her husband Mike of Jefferson, Oregon; and grandchildren Christina Rike Snyder and her husband Brad, and Brian Rike.
