On April 24, the Muscular Dystrophy Association presented the Carlyss Fire Department with a plaque for their fundraising efforts in 2008. In all, the Carlyss Fire Department raised over $1600 for MDA by holding Fill the Boot drives at Carlyss intersections. The money raised during this campaign will help to provide much needed services for patients with neuromuscular disease in Southwest Louisiana, such as assistance in purchasing wheelchairs and leg braces, flu shots, clinic visits, support group sessions, and MDA summer camp for local youth afflicted with a neuromuscular disease.
Make sure to watch for the Carlyss Fire Department as they hit the streets again this year in support of MDA. They have already collected once this year, bringing in close to $600. Their tentative dates for the 2009 Fill the Boot campaign are set for June 6, June 27, and July 18; weather permitting. The department has a goal of $2000 for the year.
You can call the local MDA office at 337-234-0088 for more information.
