In a continuing effort to keep the citizens of Calcasieu Parish safe, the CALCASIEU FULL FORCE DWI PROJECT will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint in the parish this weekend. This checkpoint will target individuals driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics. The checkpoints have proven to be very effective in discouraging citizens from driving while impaired and people are more likely to designate a driver when they know sobriety checkpoints are being conducted.

“This coming weekend is the Fourth of July holiday and there will be lots of celebrations going on around the parish, and we want to do our part to help protect people on the road who don’t drink and drive to not become victims of people who choose to drink and drive,” says Sheriff Tony Mancuso.

Law Enforcement agencies participating in the DWI checkpoint will be the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office; Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office; Louisiana State Police Troop D; Lake Charles Police Department; and the Westlake Police Department.

DWI checkpoints are funded by a grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission
