The largest annual training conference in Southwest Louisiana for emergency responders will be hosted by the Calcasieu Emergency Response Training Center July 9 through July 11 at the Sulphur High School Ninth Grade Campus on 600 Willow St., Sulphur, LA. The 2nd Annual Special Techniques and Response Training Fest (S.T.A.R.T.) will offer free emergency responder training classes on topics such as:
•20 Hour Basic Rope Rescue
•12 Hour V.F.I.S. Emergency Vehicle Operations
•Managing the Mayday
•Vehicle Rescue/Today’s Technology
•1st Due Engine Responsibilities
•Pump Operations/Back to Basics
•Street Smart Safety Officer
•Fire Origin: The Basics
•Lost Person Incidents: Initial Operations
•Emergency Response to Alternative Fuel Incidents
More than 100 responders have already registered to attend and close to 50 vendors that sell emergency response equipment will also be in attendance. The La. State Fire Marshal, “Butch” Browning will speak at the opening ceremony July, 9, 6 p.m. Classes begin Saturday, July 10, 8 a.m. An emergency response equipment show will begin Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Hourly door prizes will be given out at the show.
