The City of Sulphur is proud to announce a new event for the community to enjoy this September. “Stars and Stripes in the Park” celebrates all things that the Sulphur community believes in, “Faith, Family and Community”. The event will take place Saturday, September 11, on the grounds of Heritage Square and the Henning Cultural Center, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is free.
Mayor Chris Duncan recognizes the date of the event and its significance. “September 11 is a date that all of us will never forget. But as we remember the horrible events of that day, we should also recognize how this great nation pulled together,” said Duncan. “We thought it would be nice to create an evening of fun this fall celebrating what the people of Southwest Louisiana show to be their greatest strength: patriotism.”
Entertainment will be provided by the popular party band “Boomerang.” This local band always promises a “high-intensity” performance, as all musicians perform in wild, zany costumes from the 70’s and play everyone’s favorite hits from the past. Several hundred classic cars are expected to be at the event, along with Sulphur’s legendary monster truck, “Southern Sunshine.” Lastly, culture will be present with the help of Brimstone Museum. The Henning Cultural Center will be open for all to view the museum’s latest art exhibit “The Drawing Board.” For more information, please call Sulphur City Hall, at 527-4500.
