The featured speaker for the Sulphur Sunrise Rotary Club for Friday, August 8 was Bonnie Cappo, MS, Program Director for the new Wound Healing Center at West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital. Cappo described the new service being offered at WCCH to Rotary Club members by explaining that a multi-disciplinary approach is taken to heal wounds. 
“Patients can self-refer or be referred by their attending physician. Think of us as in-house specialists who can help you identify the specific causes of your wound, initiate a treatment plan designed specifically for you and then implement that treatment plan with the quality that you would expect from West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital. Our experienced physicians, nurses, and therapists work together to heal the patient.”
Cappo stated that the Wound Healing Center was part of a network of 139 other centers affiliated with National Healing, a company with a proven success rate in wound treatment and healing. Eight area physicians, including Dr. Maureen Lannan, the Medical Director for the center, are panel physicians who provide direct patient care. Each physician, as well as staff members, attended a week of intensive training at Ohio State University.
“What sets our center apart from other wound care centers is that we are physician-driven. Other centers are generally managed by nurses,” she said.
The Wound Healing Center offers transcutaneous oxygen monitoring, Doppler evaluation of pulses, vascular studies, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, wound dressing and wound debridement.
