Joe Andrepont, District 12 representative on the Calcasieu Parish School Board, has announced his candidacy for re-election. Andrepont, who is currently serving as board president, also served as president in 2005, the first school board president from Sulphur since 1993. Andrepont has served as chairman for all major school board committees, including: budget and fiscal management; curriculum and instruction; administrative and personnel; and pupil personnel.
“Being in public office means that you represent the views of those who elect you. My voting record has demonstrated that I have been a voice and vote for the people,” said Andrepont. “I am a conservative, with pro-life values, and have implemented many improvements in my time on the school board to give the children in our area more opportunities through education.”
Andrepont, a lifelong resident of Sulphur, is married to Sherri Trahan. They have three children and one grandchild. A graduate of Sulphur High School, Andrepont attended Louisiana State University and McNeese State University and is an honor graduate of the School of Pharmacy at the University of Louisiana-Monroe. He is a member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church and on the board of directors for the Rotary Club of Sulphur and the West Calcasieu Association of Commerce. Andrepont, a former manager at K&B Drugs, is currently the Senior Community Affairs Representative for Westlake Chemical and a relief pharmacist for Brookshire Brothers.
“Before I was elected to the school board, I spent two years preparing myself to be a productive member of the school board. I attended every board meeting, talked with parents, visited with different departments and read all the material I could get my hands on; essentially, I did my homework,” said Andrepont. “Attention to detail and experience have enabled me to grow and gain a great appreciation for the many requirements needed to be an effective board member. It is a job that I take very seriously.”
Throughout his terms, Andrepont’s accomplishments include: oversight of three separate bond issues addressing additions and renovations made to schools in Sulphur; planning and oversight of the construction of the ninth grade school in Sulphur and of a new elementary school, Cypress Cove, the first in the area since 1968.
“All-in-all, I have been responsible for overseeing over $98.1 million of improvements made to Sulphur schools, ranging from new classrooms, libraries, parking, athletic improvements and classroom equipment,” said Andrepont. “I’ve been pleased to see test scores improve and I’ve worked hard to develop a good working relationship with area schools and administration and respond to the needs of students, employees, retirees and the taxpayers of Calcasieu Parish. I believe that a public servant should be active and provide fair representation for all.”
“I would like the citizens of District 12 to know that I am committed to the education and future of all our children and that their vote would be appreciated.”
