The Council accepted the introduction on Tuesday night of separate ordinances amending the water and sewer rates respectively to $19 per month. The rates would be effective on the first billing cycle of 2011.
Council member Paul Patin voted nay to sewer while Council member Bliss Bujard voted nay in both vote counts. Both ordinances will have a public hearing at the Council's November meeting.
Mayor Kenny Stinson stated again before the Council that the money generated from the rate increase is planned for placement in a separate fund for the purpose of needed repairs and the updating of the systems that will soon be needed.
“No dedication language is in with either ordinance,” Thad Minaldi, Town Attorney, told the Council. Stinson acknowledged that.
Also at Council, Jerry Roy from the Calcasieu Animal Services made his presentation.
“We’ve been busy in the town of Vinton since we’ve taken over and every month we seem to get busier,” said Roy.
“I’ve seen a steady improvement from your end,” Council member Harold Douga said in a compliment to the group.
“Communication has gotten better and better,” he added.
