Mayor Ron LeLeux has announced that the new contract between Allied Waste Services and the City of Sulphur, for the collection and disposal of residential and qualified commercial solid waste, will commence July 1, 2009. Allied Waste Services will be providing educational materials, via a mail out, to inform customers of the services offered.
While the City will continue to offer unlimited collection of qualified solid waste, there are some modifications. All waste must be either containerized, bundled or be qualified bulky waste or white goods.
Containerized waste must be bagged. Each residential service will be furnished with one solid waste container as part of the residential rate. A second container may be purchased directly from the City‘s contractor, Allied Waste. The cost of this container must meet City approval and will be based on the cost of similar containers available through the retail market. Once this container is purchased, it belongs to the resident. Use of a second container does not affect a resident’s
monthly rate. A third container may also be requested. This third container will result in the serviced location being charged for a second service fee. In other words, if you use a third container, your monthly rate for solid waste collection will be double the rate for using one or two containers. This will serve to discourage the generation of excess waste but provide a means to have it serviced if necessary. Each solid waste container in excess of the third container will result in an additional monthly charge. Commercial locations are limited to the first two containers being serviced under this contract.
Bagged excess waste, placed outside of the container will not be serviced with the exception of the weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s.
White goods, placed at the curb, will be picked up within seven days of your collection date. All refrigerants must be removed as required by environmental regulations. Bulky waste, placed at the curb, will also be picked up within seven days of the scheduled collection date. Yard waste must be bundled and will be serviced within seven days. Construction debris must be bundled and placed at the curb. Only five bundles of construction debris may be placed for collection on any one service date.
Waste generated by commercial tree removal, tree trimming, construction or other similar commercial activities (for hire work) will not be serviced under this contract. The cost for that removal must be included in the cost of the contracted service provided to the resident.
