The League of Women Voters and Chamber Southwest Louisiana will be presenting the 2010 SWLA Legislative Wrap Up on Friday, June 25, at Reeves Uptown Catering in Lake Charles. •'Paws in the Park' fun
A morning full of fun is planned for dogs and their families on Saturday, June 26, at Sam Houston Jones State Park. The activities will begin at 8 a.m. and last until 12 noon. The cost is $15 for pets and a family and $10 for individuals.
At 8:30 p.m. the family and pet walk will begin. There are plans for games, photo ops, food and cold drinks, old-fashioned sack races, patriotic make and take crafts and fellowship with animal lovers.
There will be special events for the dogs with prizes given for the most beautiful eyes, the best tail wag, the most patriotic costume, the best friend, the beloved rescue dog and the musical sit. To the canine’s delight there will be free nail trims, doggie treats and rescue information.
The group that is there will be painting a large American flag with everyone’s handprints and paw prints. The flag will be presented to the National Guard Armory in Lake Charles to show support and express gratitude to American Patriots and Hometown Heroes.
The special day is sponsored by LAPAW and Jambalaya News. All donations are tax deductible and will be used toward the medical care of the rescued dogs and cats.

•Family and Youth 40th Anniversary Celebration/Meeting
On Monday, June 28, at L’Auberge du Lac Casino and Resort, Family and Youth will hold an anniversary celebration and annual meeting. The meeting will take place at 11:30 a.m. and is expected to end by 2 p.m. Awards for Humanitarian of the Year, Youth of the Year, and Family Festival Poster Contest Winners will be presented.

The Calcasieu Youth Organization is holding a Career/Job Fair from June 28 - July 2 at the Lake Charles Civic Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Organizations can lease a booth for the low price of $300 for all three days. •Fourth of July Blue Ribbon Apple Pie contest
All bakers are invited to participate in the fourth annual Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Contest for ribbons and cash prizes, held in conjunction with the Red White Blue & You Fourth of July Festival in downtown Lake Charles.
Simply bring your baked pie to the Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Welcome Center located at 1205 N. Lakeshore Drive in Lake Charles on Saturday, July 3 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Judging will take place later that afternoon. Winners will be notified by phone.
Each pie will be judged on overall appearance; color, flavor, texture and doneness of the crust; consistency, doneness and flavor of the filling; and the wild card – creativity. Pies must include at least 60 percent apples in the filling. Unfortunately, entries that require refrigeration will not be accepted due to food safety reasons. Pies may be single or double crust, and a recipe must be submitted with the entry form.
Winners will be announced on stage at the Lake Charles Civic Center Arcade Pavilion at the Red White Blue & You Festival on Sunday, July 4 at 7 p.m. during the patriotic program. If inclement weather prevails, the program will be moved to the Civic Center Coliseum. First place will receive a blue ribbon and $100, second place will be awarded a red ribbon and $75, and the third place winner will receive a white ribbon and $50.

•Arts Camp
The Imperial Calcasieu Museum will be holding art camp this year with weekly sessions beginning on July 5, 12, 19 and 26. Arts Camp is for students who have completed kindergarten through eighth grade. Tuition for a week is $55 for museum members, $65 for non-members. •CTC Summer Starz Additional Workshop
The Children’s Theatre Company and Kerry A. Onxley, Artistic Director, announce an additional workshop to its annual Summer Starz Series. ‘Acting for the Camera!’ affords children the chance to experience acting on camera. The workshop covers auditioning for commercials, reading commercial scripts, exploring different commercial techniques, and beginning improvisational skills. Information and samples are shared on doing resumes, head shots and finding the best agent or manager while students participate with hands-on camera experience. The workshop will be offered on July 7 to July 9 from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. for children ages 8 to 18. The cost is $85. No experience is needed for the workshop. The class has limited enrollment and is held at Central School of the Arts & Humanities Center (809 Kirby Street). Every Thursday in July, the Imperial Calcasieu Museum is hosting its annual Summer Film Series. This year's films are The Paper (July 8), Network (July 15), Sergeant York (July 22) and Harry Potter (July 29). Each film begins at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free for museum members and $4 for the public.

•2nd Saturdays
2nd Saturdays in Sulphur at the Henning Cultural Center will be starting soon. Events include: July 10 - Sketch lab, ceramics; August 14 - Dance, painting, and presentation by the Coastal Plains Conservancy.
Each event day will last from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Refreshments will be provided but no lunch. All children from ages 5 to 12 years are welcome but space is limited. •Ninth Annual Lake Charles High School Reunion
For nearly a decade, Lake Charles High School has held an open reunion for all classes. This year, there will be a special tribute to the band and cheerleaders. The open reunion will be at 10 a.m. at Lake Charles-Boston Academy of Learning on Saturday, July 17. •2nd Annual Wee Wiggles Rhythm and Art Camp
Wee Wiggles Rhythm and Art Camp will use creative movement, music, and hands on art activities to bring out the imagination in each child. Children ages 3-5 will learn about a variety of music styles and that classical music can be fun to move to! Children will also paint, create collages, help design a dance costume, and make their own musical instrument! The five day workshop is from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and the cost is $50. This covers all materials needed for the art projects, child's photo, and snacks. The 5-day camp will be at Sulphur Academy of Dance Arts. Call 496-3912 to register. The Sulphur High School Class of 1980 has started preparations for its 30th class reunion celebration October 1 to October 3, 2010. They are seeking current information on their classmates. •Catch a Concert Every Monday in June
The Lake Charles Community Band will perform each Monday at the Civic Center Outdoor Pavilion. Bring blankets or lawn chairs, pack a picnic dinner or enjoy Dominos Pizza. Enjoy sounds from the screen, including movie titles, video. There will be a new theme with new songs each week. Conduction auction winners keep the baton. Rainy weather plans are for the 2nd floor Civic Center Mezzanine. This concert series leads up to the Red White Blue & You Patriotic Program during the Fourth of July Festival.

•Sulphur Academy of Dance Arts Dance Technique Classes
Classes will focus on technique needed to execute dance movements with beauty, grace, and proper form. Exercises to improve strength and flexibility will also be part of the class. •Teen Dances at VFW
The VFW and Ladies Auxiliary 8107, located at 1235 E. Napoleon Street in Sulphur will sponsor Teen Dances every Wednesday night from 8 until 11 p.m. all summer until the Wednesday night before school begins. Cost is $6. Teens will be required to sign in and sign out. Dress and behavior codes are enforced. Security will be on duty and there will be plenty of chaperons as well.
