West Calcasieu Association of Commerce recently held its first Raffle and Crawfish Boil Fundraiser. Over two hundred attendees enjoyed delicious crawfish and sides as well as free beverages at the event held at the West Cal Arena in Sulphur. Entertainment was provided by Judd Bares, singer and recording artist. Bares is also the owner of Sweet Spot Telemedia, a local business in Sulphur.
"We had a good crowd come out for our first event of this kind. There was great representation from small and large businesses and it was a great opportunity for networking and fellowship, said Janice Ackley, Executive Director of the WCAC. "The West Cal Arena in Sulphur was the perfect venue, it offered a friendly, laid back atmosphere which was perfect for this type of event; and performer Judd Bares really entertained the crowd with an amazing performance. Great food, atmosphere, entertainment, and you can't beat the support we received from the community."
The event culminated with the prize drawings and announcement of the winners by Lloyd Lauw, President of the WCAC. Winner of the Grand Prize of $5,000 was David Misse with Misse's Grocery. Four $500 cash prizes were won by Dr. George Vincent, Century Group; Gerrit Lawrence, Webtronics; Ralph Lewing, Lewing Construction; and Jeff Coates, Home Building Materials.
West Calcasieu Association of Commerce would like to thanks all of those who supported the fundraiser by way of purchasing tickets and underwriting costs associated with putting it on. Major supporters included Adrian Moreno, West Calcasieu Arena; Judd Bares, Sweet Spot Telmedia; Lake Charles Civic Center, and Lloyd Lauw, Lloyd Lauw Collision Repair Center.
"We are very appreciative of everyone who bought tickets and helped us meet our goals for this fundraiser," said Wilmer Dugas, WCAC Member and Fundraiser Committee Member.
"One of our goals this year is to grow our organization and offer more services and greater value to our members," he added. "It was a great evening and we had some wonderful support from the business community to put on this event."
"The West Calcasieu Association of Commerce have made great strides to become a more vital part of the community in Sulphur, Westlake and Vinton," added Lloyd Lauw, President of WCAC. "We are in the process of updating all of our systems as well as our logo, marketing materials and website. We hope to make this Crawfish Boil and Raffle Fundraiser an annual event for the West Calcasieu Association of Commerce in our effort to raise money to reinvest in the Association as well as offer meaningful opportunities for businesses to network with each other and for the community to interact with local business leaders."
The West Calcasieu Association is looking for new business, both large and small, to join. They meet on the second Thursday of each month and have dynamic speakers and networking opportunities. If you would like more information on joining, please call the WCAC office at 337-533-1040.
