The Junior Women’s Conference of 2012 is entitled “My GPS for Success!” and is offered to young women in eighth through 12th grade. The GPS in the title stands for Goals, Preparation and Strategy.
Young women will want to know about the special day planned by the Women’s Commission of SWLA, Inc.
The day will include amusement, education and fashion in one day of nine programs that will be offered. The only problem is that attendees will only be able to choose three of those nine topics. The decision will be difficult. Each 45 minute session will have three choices. Organizers decided to offer one active choice, one educational choice and one creative choice each session.
All interested should register immediately. Those who register by Feb. 27 will receive a free t-shirt to wear on the day of the event. Those who register after this date can purchase a t-shirt for an additional $11 while supplies last. The conference is March 17 at the Parra Ballroom at McNeese State University.
The day will begin at 9:15 a.m. and lasts until 3:30 p.m. The cost of the registration is $10 which includes lunch and a t-shirt. And there will be shopping! Vendors will be on site with various items to sell that young women would like. Those interested in purchasing items during shopping should start saving their money now.
These are the nine programs that will be offered: Zumba, a cooking demo, journaling and self expression, interviewing skills, boogie woogie ballroom basics, scrapbooking skills, self defense, skin care/make-up, and becoming a young woman.
Shopping and registration and socializing will begin the day. Participants will hear a short presentation by MSU about preparing for college. Then the sessions begin until lunch is served. (Shopping is also available during lunch.) Paul Gonsoulin, musician and songwriter, is the entertainer and Nomica Guillory, former Mrs. Louisiana is the keynote speaker.
The afternoon includes another session and then the entire group will watch a fashion show produced by Blane Bourgeois. The style show will feature prom fashions from Mam’Selle’s and casual fashions from the MSU Bookstore and a new line designed by Tina Knowles that will be premiering at Walmart.
Pastor Mary Guidry-Ringo of Faith Vision Ministries will give the closing remarks, before shopping will again be available.
For information on the conference and registration can call Tammy Thibodeaux at 499-9197 or by email at tammy1908@aol.com. Registration can be done online at www.womenscommissionswla.com. Flyers will be distributed to area school within the upcoming weeks. Please keep following the page on Facebook for additional details and updates.
