Before 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sulphur police were notified that Access of Louisiana Federal Credit Union at 4400 Maplewood Drive was robbed.
Immediately upon receiving the call, Maplewood Middle School, Maplewood First Baptist preschool, and the Center Circle Library were all placed on lockdown. The lockdown was lifted at 3:25 p.m.
The Calcasieu Parish Office of Homeland Security issued a phone call to everyone in a mile radius of the credit union notifying them of the incident. This led to several calls through 911 that the Sulphur Police Department followed up on.
"Even though these calls did not lead to locating the suspect, I want to thank the citizens for their help and cooperation," said Chief Chris Abrahams.
The suspect is a male wearing a white hoodie with blue horizontal stripes, blue jeans and white tennis shoes. He fled on foot east on Maplewood Drive after receiving an undetermined amount of money. The suspect is described as being between 5'8" to 5'9" tall and weighing between 200-220 pounds.
Due to the suspect wearing a mask and sunglasses, the age, race, or nationality of the individual is unknown.
As the suspect fled, a dye pack in the money went off and the suspect is expected to be covered in the red/pink dye.
Sulphur Police Public Information Officer Mel Estess said that the department is unsure of the current location of the suspect and it is unknown if the suspect is armed.
Anyone with information on the robbery or location of the suspect should call Sulphur Police Detective Division at 527-4550 or Crime Stoppers at 337-439-2222. Callers will remain anonymous.
