On August 17 and 18 the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Compliance and Awareness Program (CAP Unit) and Warrants Division conducted address verifications on active registered sex offenders in the areas of Vinton, Starks, DeQuincy, and Sulphur.
During the two days, a total of 81 offenders were checked and one arrest was made.
CPSO detectives arrested Ernest J. Town, 23, 908 Kim St., Sulphur, when they learned he moved seven days prior to the detectives’ visit and had not notified the CAP Unit of his move. Sex offenders are required to notify the CAP Unit of a change of address within three business days.
Town was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with failure to register as a sex offender.
Judge Robert Wyatt set his bond at $15,000. Town was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child in Texas in April 2004.
