Around midnight February 9, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to an alarm call at a retail store on Derek Drive in Lake Charles. When deputies arrived they observed the front glass door had been smashed. The investigation revealed three pairs of shoes had been taken from the store. A deputy watched the surveillance video from the store and gave other deputies a description of the men and the vehicle they were in.
A short time later, deputies spotted the car and conducted a stop. Kenneth J. McKenzie, 21, 2408 Fruge St., Lake Charles, led deputies on a short foot pursuit but was apprehended. While being questioned by a CPSO detective, McKenzie confirmed to taking part in the burglary.
McKenzie and Robert E. Harden, Jr., 31, 512 Princess Ann Court, Lake Charles, were both arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with criminal property damage, burglary, public intoxication, and theft. James was additionally charged with resisting an officer.
Judge A. J. Planchard set Harden’s bond at $6,500 and McKenzie’s at $ 7,500.
