CPSO arrests man for carnal knowledge of a juvenile

On June 10th, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office received a complaint in regard to an 18 year old man engaging in inappropriate sexual activity with a 15 year old girl. The investigation revealed Donald R. Miller, III, 18, 381 Orange St ., DeQuincy, engaged in inappropriate sexual activity with the girl on two different occasions.
Miller was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile.
Judge Michael Canaday set his bond at $25,000.
CPSO Detective Stephen Irwin is the lead investigator on this case.

Sulphur man arrested for second time for failure to register as sex offender

Lake Charles , LA – On June 27th, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Compliance and Awareness Program (CAP Unit) executed a warrant and arrested George C. Shipman, 63, 810 N. Claiborne St. #1, Sulphur, for failure to register as a sex offender.
Shipman was also convicted and was sentenced to five years supervised probation in March 2006 in Calcasieu Parish for failure to register stemming from a conviction for aggravated incest in Texas in July 1989.  He is required to register for life.
In January 2008, he informed Judge Rick Bryant he was moving to Texas .  Judge Bryant terminated his probation on the condition Shipman move to Texas. In June 2008, the CAP Unit had not received information on Shipman moving and registering in Texas so deputies initiated an investigation which revealed Shipman never moved to Texas but was living in Sulphur . Shipman was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. Judge Michael Canaday set his bond at $25,000.
CPSO Detectives Scott Miller and JoAnn Pape are the lead investigators on this case.

Westlake registered sex offender arrested with new charge

Lake Charles , LA – On June 19th, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested Charles L. Bergeron, Sr., 76, 321 Dalton Rd., Westlake , a convicted sex offender, on a new charge of molestation of a juvenile.  A complaint was filed alleging Bergeron had inappropriate contact with a nine year old girl. 
Bergeron is a registered sex offender due to a conviction in 2000 in Calcasieu Parish for molestation of a juvenile. Bergeron has been arrested on multiple occasions for sex crimes beginning in 1975.
Judge Michael Canaday has ordered Bergeron held without a bond.
CPSO Detective Michael Primeaux is the lead investigator in this case.

S.C.I.T. stats for June 2008

Lake Charles, LA – The following are June 2008 stats for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Street Crime Interdiction Team (S.C.I.T.).  SCIT deputies:
·patrolled a total of 1,396 miles
·worked a total of 147 hours
·completed a total of 60 field interview cards
·conducted a total of 88 traffic stops
·issued a total of 75 warnings
·issued a total of 20 traffic citations
·issued a total of 8 misdemeanor summons
·conducted a total of 9 narcotics-related arrest
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office SCIT Team is a special detail team comprised of 20 deputies, with 5 to 7 deputies working each shift for 5 hours at a time.  The details are normally scheduled 2 to 3 times a week all over the parish.  SCIT is funded by a federal grant by the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement.
