Around 4:45 a.m., Monday, February 1, while patrolling the neighborhood, a Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy observed a suspicious car parked in the road in the 2300 block of Van Buren St. in Lake Charles, occupied by two males. Two other males were standing underneath a carport of a house between two vehicles wearing masks. It appears the men may have been attempting a home invasion robbery at the home. All four men were ordered by the deputy to stand against the car.
While the deputy was waiting on backup, one of the men fled on foot leading the deputy in a foot pursuit. The man was apprehended within a few minutes and another man took off running and got away. When the backup deputies arrived, they took the men into custody. Deputies searched the area and discovered two rifles lying in the grass in a neighbor’s backyard where they were thrown by the suspects.
Johnathon W. Thierry, 36, 113 Holmes Rd., and Leonard C. Lambert, 18, 2400 Fruge St., #408, both of Lake Charles, were arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with attempted armed robbery with a firearm; and criminal trespassing. Thierry was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. A 16-year-old juvenile was also arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Parish Juvenile Detention Center.
Judge Wilford Carter set Thierry’s bond at $30,000 and Lambert’s at $20,500.
CPSO CPL. Greg Nall and Cpl. Dennis Courtney were the arresting deputies. Detective Mark Clark is the lead investigator on this case. The investigation is ongoing with additional arrests and charges pending.
