Charles “Chuck” Hansen, 54, of Sulphur, pleaded not guilty to five misdemeanor charges during an arraignment in San Diego (Calif.) City Court on Monday. His bail was set at $25,000 and was not listed in custody Tuesday.

According to court spokesman Gerry Braun, a second victim has pressed charges against Hansen since his arrest was made public.

In regard to the first victim, a 17-year-old female, Hansen faces one count each of annoying or molesting a person believed to be under the age of 17, willfully, lewdly, unlawfully exposing his person and the private parts thereof; and lewd, dissolute conduct in a public place or a place exposed to public view. Hansen faces one count of willfully, unlawfully exposing his person and one count of lewd dissolute conduct with regard to a second victim.

The charges are all misdemeanors and the cases were sent from the San Diego District Attorney’s Office to the City Attorney’s Office. Braun said there will be a readiness hearing in December.

Hansen was arrested on Friday, September 30, after the San Diego Police Department received a call from the 17-year-old victim that a man in a car had stopped her as she walked down a sidewalk. When she approached his vehicle, the victim said Hansen was masturbating.

She was able to provide officers with a description of Hansen and his vehicle. The SDPD stopped Hansen several blocks away from the scene of the incident and arrested him.

If Hansen is convicted and receives the maximum penalty he would face one year in jail and a $5,000 fine for the first victim and six months in jail and a $1,000 fine for the second.

He will also have to register as a sex offender for life under the California penal code.

Hansen has resigned his seat with the Calcasieu Parish School Board, on which he served for nearly three years. Prior to that, Hansen was alternately a school principal, coach, teacher, and special education teacher at schools in Iowa, DeQuincy and Sulphur.
