Four of seven defendants connected to a November 2016 shooting and burglary in Moss Bluff were arraigned Monday in state district court.
Authorities state that Deante Shuffer, of Moss Bluff, Austin Jones, also of Moss Bluff, and Christopher Jones, II, of Lake Charles, forced their way into a home in the 2600 block of North Perkins Ferry Road on Nov. 30, 2016, shot the victim in the arm and leg and fled with cash and items to a nearby getaway car.
All three pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery and armed robbery with a firearm.
Their co-defendant, Gavin Daigle, of Moss Bluff, is accused of helping to plan and execute the robbery and of providing details on the victim. He pled not guilty to one count of attempted first-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
Also arrested in connection to the crime were Kendrick Yaw, of Lake Charles; Jazmine Washington, of Sulphur; and Ayana Johnson, also of Lake Charles.
Yaw, who authorities said was identified from surveillance footage as the driver of the getaway vehicle, faces attempted second-degree murder, armed robbery and armed robbery with a firearm charges. He was scheduled to be arraigned Monday but declined to enter a plea without his attorney present. Judge Thomas Quirk reset his arraignment for March 6.
Washington and Johnson each face accessory after the fact to attempted first-degree murder and accessory after the fact to armed robbery charges. Both are expected to be arraigned on March 6.
Case management conferences are scheduled May 22 for Daigle, Shuffer, Austin Jones and Christopher Jones, II.
