CARC dropoff center

CARC administrators and clients, City officials and members of the West Calcasieu Chamber of Commerce cut ribbon, Monday, on the new CARC Donation Center located at 3620 D Maplewood Drive.

On Monday of this week, CARC cut ribbon on the agency’s first donation drop off center at 3620 D Maplewood Drive.

CARC Executive Director Libby Leone said the center will serve as a collection site for donated items. Donations will be sorted at the center and then sent to one of four CARC Treasure Chest thrift stores located in Lake Charles, Moss Bluff, Jennings, and DeRidder.

“Individuals with disabilities will meet the customers at their car and bring the donated items in to sort into clothing, housewares, and shoes,” said Leone. She said clothing with stains or other items with minor flaws are sent to third world countries.

The center will be run by two individuals with disabilities and one staff member. The employees receive a salary.

“Our main goal is to get individuals with disabilities employment in the community,” said Leone.

“This offers our community with another resource to each out to those in need,” said Mayor Mike Danahay.

The center will accept donations of all items, with the exception of large appliances and perishable items. Hours are 7 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday; and 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday.
