PHOTO SPOTLIGHT: Green Eggs and Ham in Vinton

Emmanuel Christian Celebrates Reading — Students and staff at Emmanuel Christian Academy in Vinton celebrated Read Across America last Friday by dressing as characters from Dr. Seuss books. The nationwide reading celebration, created by the National Education Association takes place annually on or near Dr. Seuss's birthday, March 2. At Emmanuel Christian a teacher drew Seuss characters and landscapes for the walls of the hallway and classroom doors. Scenes featured favorites like Thing 1 and Thing 2, The Lorax, Horton Hears a Who, and Oh, The Places You'll Go. The lunch room was decked out in a Green Eggs and Ham theme. Large paper fish were decorated with handprints from each student. Principal Ashley Courville, who is serving her first year in the position, said the school has nearly 100 students in grades Pre-K 3 through 8 and 15 staff. The school gained 20 students just this year. Plans are underway for an expansion.
